A mother's love for a lost son — the sex offender found dead Saturday

There is something odd about this case, maybe at a future date something will show up. Who killed who? A suicide pact? Also possible is, all were killed b/c Green was a RSO by a vigilante? Whatever the facts really are, a RSO died/was killed, hence inclusion for the other deaths here.

On Nov. 10, 1992, Lewis Green, then 22, shot himself in the head during a game of Russian Roulette.

That left him partially paralyzed on his left side and with mental problems, his mother said.

Twenty-two years and five days later — on Saturday — Green, 44, was one of three people shot to death at a north side Springfield hotel that often is home to transients, as well as families down on their luck.

"I loved my son," said Green's mother, Kaye Green, Tuesday before she went to start making funeral arrangements. "I loved my son in spite of himself."

Green was living in room 149 of the Economy Inn where he was required to have his address posted online because he was a registered sex offender. Also killed in the same room were Danielle J. Keyes, 29, and Trevor L. Fantroy, 43. One man survived, Christopher K. Freeman, 24. No arrests have been made.

Kaye Green, 63, a former machine operator who retired from Solo Cup after 24 years, said her son moved to the Economy Inn about five months ago. She said he could afford the payments on his checks from Social Security disability and the motel didn't do background checks on who lived there.

Bonne Terre, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) — There were stunning developments Wednesday in the shooting rampage in Bonne Terre that happened on day earlier: another possible victim, a suicide note, and an apology from the suspected shooter's family.

It appears 25 year old Nathan Fortner was distraught over a breakup with the mother of his son, Danielle Bement. His suicide note reads in part, "I pray to God, God forgives me"... "I can't take it"... "We're not going to get back together". Fortner obviously felt helpless, and now his mother does.

"I'm so deeply sorry," said his mother Mary Anne, "words can't express the sorrow in our hearts."

Police found another body believed to be linked to Fortner's crime spree late Tuesday night. 19 year old Ericka Wade was discovered in a vacant home on Doc Wallen Road in Washington County. Wade was a freshman cheerleader at Mineral Area College.

"Everyone loved this girl," said Nick Basinger, a friend of Ericka's. "A girl like Ericka, what do you do? What do you do?

Tuesday morning, police say Fortner shot and killed Bement, her mother Christine Snider and Snider's boyfriend Derek Nash. Then he killed himself. Police were led to the home on Doc Wallen Road by their investigation. Before her death, Bement had reported to police Fortner had raped her at that location.

Police are not yet saying for sure Fortner was Ericka Wade's killer.

"She was just a blast to be around," said her prom date, 19 year old Justin Clemons. "No matter where she was she was having a good time. And she had a wonderful smile. We pretty much danced the entire time."

Fortner was supposed to go on trial in April for a rape charge. Police say the victim in that case was not involved in Tuesday's crime. Fortner's parents say he was bipolar and had stopped taking his medication.

Clemons and Basinger say their entire community is in mourning.

"She'll always be remembered," said Clemons. "Especially by me, from the experiences we had together. Those are milestones that she shared with me. I'll never forget her." ..Source.. by KTVI-TV

Missouri gunman blamed in fourth shooting death

Missouri investigators said Tuesday they have linked a man who killed himself after shooting three people to death in eastern Missouri to the shooting death of another victim, whose body was found after the rampage.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a statement that unspecified DNA evidence and telephone records link gunman Nathan Fortner, 25, to the shooting death of 20-year-old Ericka Wade. Sgt. Al Nothum, a spokesman for the patrol, later declined to elaborate on the release, which said no one other than Fortner appears involved in the deaths.

“It was DNA evidence. That's about as specific as we can get,” Nothum told The Associated Press. “We normally don't get into that. (But) it pretty much puts him at the crime scene.”

Police said Fortner broke into a duplex apartment Nov. 30 in the 7,000-resident former mining town of Bonne Terre about 55 miles southwest of St. Louis and opened fire, killing his former girlfriend, 19-year-old Danielle Bement, along with Bement's mother, Christine Snider, 37, and Snider's live-in boyfriend, Derek Nash, 32. Snider and Nash lived in the duplex on a quiet, secluded cul de sac, and Bement had been staying there. Two boys at the home were unharmed.

Fortner turned a handgun on himself as police closed in.

The body of Wade, a Fortner acquaintance, was found later that day in an abandoned house near Bismarck in neighboring Washington County. Wade had been reported missing the previous night.

Fortner's sister, Angie Fortner, has said her brother was unemployed, bipolar and overcome with despair over the breakup with Danielle Bement. After the shootings, the couple's 18-month-old son was found unharmed in the same sport utility vehicle as his fatally injured mother, who police say died trying to protect the boy.

Angie Fortner said her brother left three Post-it notes at her house.

“We will never get back together and it hurts so bad I just can't take that,” read one. “I know you all are going to be very mad at me but I just can't take it anymore,” read another.

In the third note, Fortner expressed his innocence in a pending rape case against him. Fortner was free on bond on that 2008 rape charge and was scheduled to go on trial in April.

Fortner's criminal background included probation for 2003 charges of burglary, property damage and tampering with a motor vehicle. In 2006, he again got probation after pleading guilty to third-degree assault and disturbing the peace. ..Source.. by KansasCity.com

MO- Gunman who killed ex-girlfriend in O'Fallon, Mo. was registered sex offender

11-16-2008 Missouri:

St. Johns Mercy Urgent Care Center in O'Fallon, Mo. will remain closed this weekend and reopen Monday.

On Friday, Gary Sheets, 45, held hostage his ex-girlfriend, who worked as a lab technician. Police said he shot and killed Jenenne Meadows, 47, before the SWAT team shot and killed him.

Sheets was convicted in 1998 of sexual assault against a 27-year-old woman in Colorado and served 3 years in prison.

Jeff Lesinski knew the suspect since high school at Ritenor. He believes his friend was frustrated from not being able to get a job after being labeled a felon. Lesinski said, "I think what he did was horrible and unforgivable but I can see how he got pushed into it but it doesn't make it right. I'm sorry for Jenenne and her kids. I'm sorry for his mom and his family. It's a terrible tragedy."

The victim had 3 children, the youngest being a teen.

MO- Two women charged with beating man to death in Forest Park

6-18-2009 Missouri:

ST. LOUIS -- Two women who beat a man to death in Forest Park were reacting to an unwanted sexual advance, police said Wednesday in announcing the filing of first-degree murder charges against them.

Dawn E. Fulks, 25, and Mellonie D. Jones, 20, both of St. Louis, were held in jail without bond.

Police described the women as lovers, and said they attacked Willard Bryant Payne, 26, of University City, who was found dead early Monday in the Kennedy Forest area, near the southwest corner of the park. Officials said he died of head trauma.

The defendants also were charged with armed criminal action and filing a false police report.

Police said it happened late Sunday or early Monday, after Payne went with the women to smoke marijuana in the park. When Payne made an advance at Fulks, police said, Jones hit Payne.

Payne tried to run, but the women caught him and continued to beat him with an undisclosed object, police said.

Police said both women were larger than Payne. According to data from Payne's drivers license, he was 5-foot-5 and weighed 140 pounds. Police said that the women claimed Payne had tried to rape Fulks, but that detectives did not believe it. Fulks was sentenced in March in St. Louis Circuit Court to five years of probation after pleading guilty to a child abuse charge. Two Women Arrested In Beating Death of a Man in Forest Park

6-17-2009 Missouri:

Man's body was discovered Monday morning.

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) - Two women are in police custody and accused of the murder. St. Louis investigators say the women are responsible for the beating death of a 26 year old man whose body was found in Forest Park. Willard Payne's body was found in the Kennedy Forest near a jogging trail Monday morning, just west of the St. Louis Zoo.

According to police, Payne met the women at a different location and asked them to smoke some marijuana with him. They eventually ended up in Forest Park. The women told police he then made some verbal advances towards the 25-year old female. She said no, so he allegedly started doing to same to her 20-year old companion.

It was later discovered by police that the women were apparently girlfriends, both of whom were larger than the victim. Reports indicate they started beating him. Payne ran and they then caught him and beat him to death, according to police.

Police caught the pair because they initially reported that the man tried to rape them. Police now say that's not the case. The names of the women will likely be released later Tuesday. ..Source.. by John Brown Reporter

Man found dead in Forest Park: Two suspects in custody

6-17-2009 Missouri:

On Monday, June 15, a man was discovered dead on the south edge of Forest Park near the jogging trail by Wells in St. Louis. The Victim has been identified as an African-American male named William Bryant Payne.

Payne lived in the 6700 block of Chamberlain, St. Louis, Missouri. When Payne was found he was wearing only a pair of white shorts and tennis shoes. No cause of death has been released.

There were no obvious outward signs for cause of death to the victim. Minor cuts and scrapes were seen on the body. The medical team tried unsuccessfully to revive Payne during the pouring rain after finding him on a routine drive through of Forest Park. The body was discovered face down in the grass early in the morning before 7 a.m.

Not a lot is being released about this case. After the autopsy the police announced Payne's death as being suspicious. Additionally, as of Tuesday, June 16, 2009 the police have two men in custody. These men are suspected in being a part of Payne's death.

We have no information on who these men are or how they could be related to the death of Payne.
