An Oceanside barber suspected of child molestation was found dead in a Flagstaff, Ariz., hotel yesterday after local police heard gunshots inside the room, authorities said.
Flagstaff police found Andone Hairabedian, 62, and a woman dead in the hotel room. It was unclear if the woman was Hairabedian's wife, Yvonne.
Oceanside police Officer Kim Rainwater said that on Feb. 19 the department's family protection unit began to investigate allegations that Hairabedian, already a registered sex offender, had molested a relative under age 14 at his home. The next day, investigators searched Hairabedian's home on South Coast Highway and his barbershop on Mission Avenue.
Detectives later found out Hairabedian and his wife had fled Oceanside, Rainwater said.
She said investigators learned Monday that Hairabedian was staying at a hotel in Flagstaff. An arrest warrant with $1 million in bail was issued against Hairabedian on five counts of committing lewd acts on a child.
Rainwater said Flagstaff police found Hairabedian's pickup at the hotel about 2 p.m. yesterday. When officers approached, a man matching Hairabedian's description ran from the truck and into a room. A few minutes later, officers heard two gunshots, went into the room and found Hairabedian and the woman dead. ..Source.. by –P.R.
OCEANSIDE: Wanted child molester shoots self, wife in Flagstaff, Ariz.
A registered sex offender who police say fled Oceanside after detectives learned he had again molested a child shot himself and his wife dead in a Flagstaff, Ariz., motel room as police closed in on him Tuesday.
Andone Hairabedian, 62, an Oceanside barber with a previous child molestation conviction, was wanted on a $1 million warrant for five counts of child molestation, said Oceanside police spokeswoman Kim Rainwater. She said Hairabedian fled his home in the 2000 block of South Coast Highway with his wife in late February, days after Oceanside police detectives served a search warrant there.
Oceanside detectives got information that Hairabedian was staying in a Flagstaff motel and alerted Flagstaff police, Rainwater said.
On Tuesday about 2 p.m., Flagstaff officers who went to the Ramada Inn East spotted Hairabedian walking to his truck, the Arizona Daily Sun reported. When Hairabedian saw the officers, he dashed back into his motel room. Officers surrounded the room and five minutes later heard two gunshots, the Daily Sun reported.
Police broke down the door to find Hairabedian and his wife, Yvonne Hairabedian, dead of gunshot wounds to the head, Rainwater said.
According to a search warrant filed at the Vista couthouse, a 10-year-old relative told an Oceanside police officer on Feb. 18 that Hairbedian had been touching her "private parts" since she was 7. ..Source.. by North County Times
